These photographs bear witness to a solemn interfaith commemoration convened at the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib Langenthal (4900), Switzerland, held in sacred remembrance of the victims of the tragic attack perpetrated in 2012 at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin, United States of America. That heinous act of violence, carried out within the sanctity of a place of worship, reverberated profoundly across the conscience of humanity and grievously afflicted the Sikh Nation worldwide. Innocent lives were taken in circumstances that defied all principles of civilised society, religious tolerance, and human dignity.

In the wake of this tragedy, the Government of the United States of America conveyed its deepest condolences and stood in resolute solidarity with the global Sikh community. Across nations and continents, gestures of mourning, remembrance, and respect were observed, affirming a collective commitment to peace, pluralism, and interfaith concord.

The commemorative gathering in Langenthal was conducted in an atmosphere of solemn reflection, spiritual unity, and diplomatic goodwill. Religious leaders, representatives of diverse faith traditions, members of the Sangat, civic dignitaries, and honoured guests assembled in shared purpose: to pay homage to the departed souls and to reaffirm our unwavering dedication to harmony among peoples and nations.

We were deeply privileged by the presence of the Honourable Donald S. Beyer Jr., Ambassador of the United States of America to the Swiss Confederation, representing the United States Embassy in Bern. His esteemed participation stood as a dignified expression of solidarity, compassion, and the enduring bonds of friendship between the United States and the Sikh community, as well as between our respective societies.

The candle-lighting ceremony captured in these images stands as a universal symbol of remembrance, contemplation, and moral resolve. It reflects the enduring conviction that even in the shadow of tragedy, the light of humanity, unity, and peace must prevail over hatred and violence. May the memory of the victims remain eternal and honoured. May understanding triumph over division. And may peace, goodwill, and fraternity flourish among all nations, faiths, and generations to come.

The land to build a holy shrine (Gurdwara) in Langenthal, Switzerland was acquired in 1999. The foundation stone for the first Holy Shrine for the Sikhs 'Gurdwara Sahib' was laid by Hon Shri Dharam Singh Masuta on the 11th of January 2001 and thereafter the Gurudwara Sahib was jointly opened by the Home Minister of Kanton Bern head of the Police & Military Directorate & Mayor of Langenthal Hon Shri Mr. Hans-Jürg Käser and Hon Shri Dharam Singh Masuta in 23rd of September 2006. The total cost for the construction of this Holy Shrine Gurdwara Sahib Langenthal was donated by a humble brotherhood from all walks of life along with devotees, well wishers, private institutions and corporates.

Ranjit Singh Masuta is the first Sikh in Switzerland. He is the person who initiated the idea and to build the first Gurdwara Sahib which is situated at Langenthal in Switzerland, constructed in traditional Sikh architectural style – a unique landmark in all of Europe. Historic Tribute to Sikh Soldiers at Menin Gate

On 2 May 2024, we had the honour of attending a historic remembrance ceremony in Belgium to pay tribute to the Sikh and Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I. The ceremony took place near the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, one of the most important World War I remembrance sites in Europe. Every evening, the famous Last Post Ceremony is held there, where buglers play the Last Post to honour fallen soldiers. This tradition has been performed almost every day since 1928 as a symbol of respect and remembrance. During the ceremony, three buglers sounded the Last Post, followed by wreath laying to honour the martyrs who fought and died in Flanders Fields. The ceremony represents a final farewell and respect for soldiers who gave their lives for peace and freedom.

On this historic day, Ranjit Singh Masuta had the privilege to be present along with Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh Ji, representing the Sikh community. Together, flowers were offered as a mark of respect and gratitude to the brave Sikh and Indian soldiers who fought far from their homeland. During World War I, thousands of soldiers from British India, including many Sikhs, fought in the Ypres region. Many lost their lives in some of the most intense battles in history, and today their sacrifice continues to be remembered by people from around the world. This moment represents remembrance, unity, faith, and respect for the martyrs who gave their lives for humanity and peace. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

To honor 300 years of Khalsa and the sacrifice of Sikh soldiers during World War I, the City of Ieper together with the European Sikh Community organized a Celebration of Peace on Sunday 4 April 1999 at Cloth Hall in Ieper, Belgium.

Kartarpur Sahib – From Tears to a Corridor of Peace

Kartarpur Sahib holds the highest spiritual importance in Sikh history, as it is the sacred land where Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the longest period of his life. It was here that Guru Nanak Dev Ji lived as a farmer, served humanity, and established a way of life based on equality, seva, and unity. Kartarpur Sahib is not only a historical site but the very foundation of Sikh living, where the principles of Kirat Narni, Vand Chakna, and Naam Japna were practiced in their truest form. For Sikhs across the world, it remains a direct spiritual connection to Guru Nanak Dev Ji and is often regarded as one of the most sacred centers of faith.

It is also understood as a great blessing that such seva was bestowed upon Bhai Ranjit Singh Masuta, whose connection with this sacred land became part of a larger journey that cannot be fully described in words, but only understood through its depth and impact.

In the year 2000, Ranjit Singh Masuta stepped onto the sacred land of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur for the first time. That moment cannot be described in words. It was not just a visit, but a spiritual awakening. His heart was filled with peace, love, and a deep sense of connection, but within moments that peace turned into unbearable pain as he witnessed the condition of the sacred place.

After the Partition of 1947, Kartarpur Sahib had been left behind, separated from a large part of the Sikh community. Over time, the site became closed, the buildings fell into deterioration, and the land surrounding it was left in neglect. The sacred space that once echoed with sangat, seva, and the presence of Guru Nanak Dev Ji stood in silence. Historical features of the land, including old wells, had gone beneath the soil and were no longer visible. The entire environment reflected abandonment rather than reverence. Standing on that sacred soil, the reality of the situation deeply affected him. The question that arose was simple yet powerful — how could the home of Guru Nanak Dev Ji be left in such a condition. That moment became a turning point.

In that same moment, alongside his family, Bhai Sahib Veer Ji, Bhai Sham Singh Ji, and with the support of General Javed Nasser, a heartfelt Ardaas was performed. It was not planned or formal, but came from within. That Ardaas marked the beginning of a journey. A journey that was not based on words, but on commitment, faith, and sustained effort.

With Waheguru’s Kirpa, the first steps were taken. Land around Kartarpur Sahib was gradually secured, not for profit or personal gain, but as part of a larger effort of preservation and seva. Step by step, year by year, this effort continued with consistency and determination, eventually reaching nearly 105 acres of land. This was not a project or a business initiative, but a long-term commitment rooted in faith and responsibility.

The seva was carried out in a practical and meaningful way. Farming began on the land, following the same path that Guru Nanak Dev Ji himself had practiced during his time at Kartarpur. The fields were cultivated, tractors were brought in, and agricultural activity was re-established. Cattle were nurtured, and the land once again became active and productive.

Alongside this, religious practices were restored and maintained. Langar was started and served for all without discrimination, reflecting the true spirit of Sikh tradition. Daily Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was established, and a permanent Granthi Singh was appointed to ensure continuity of maryada. The space that had once stood silent gradually returned to a state of discipline, devotion, and activity. Kartarpur Sahib began to live again.

Situated near one of the most sensitive borders in the world, between India and Pakistan, the region required patience, understanding, and a respectful approach. In the early stages, the presence of the Pakistan Army in the surrounding area was a reality. Through humility and respectful communication, space was created for the seva to continue peacefully. The process remained free from conflict, focused entirely on preservation and service.

Over time, something significant began to take shape. People started to come. Not only Sikhs, but individuals from different backgrounds, including Muslims, Hindus, and others. They came with respect, they stood together, they prayed together, and they shared Langar together. The environment reflected unity rather than division, and the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji — humanity above all — became visible in practice.

What began in the year 2000 as a deeply emotional moment and a simple Ardaas developed into a long journey of faith, struggle, seva, and belief. Over the years, Kartarpur Sahib gradually regained attention and importance, eventually leading to the creation of the Kartarpur Corridor.

Today, the Kartarpur Corridor stands as a historic reality, allowing thousands of devotees to visit daily and millions annually from across the world. It is not only a physical passage, but a connection between people, faith, and shared heritage. It represents access, continuity, and the revival of a sacred link that had remained separated for decades.

Kartarpur Sahib today stands not only as a place of history, but as a living example of faith in action. It reflects how dedication, seva, and sustained effort can contribute to preserving heritage and reconnecting generations with their spiritual roots.

There are certain contributions that cannot be fully expressed in words. They are not defined by recognition or visibility, but by the impact they leave behind. The seva connected with Kartarpur Sahib stands in that space — beyond description, yet deeply understood. Kartarpur Sahib remains a place of peace, unity, and spiritual continuity, carrying forward the timeless message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji for generations to come.

Gujarat Earthquake Relief - 2001

In January 2001, a strong earthquake impacted the Kutch District of Gujarat, killing thousands, injuring over 100,000, and destroying over 300,000 homes. WTN Group AG plus Global Line Holding AG together with the support of our community did a fund raising of One Hundred Thousand Swiss Francs and this funds was sent to treat the communities in wake of Gujarat Earthquakes in 2001.

Humanitarian Relief Efforts in Pakistan – 2004 Earthquake

Following the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan, causing widespread destruction, loss of life, and leaving countless families homeless, WTN Group AG, in partnership with Global Line Holding AG, played a significant humanitarian role in supporting the affected communities. With the generous support of donors, WTN Group AG and Global Line Holding AG organized and delivered critical relief assistance through their established network and local partners. Essential humanitarian aid, including emergency healthcare support and basic necessities, was provided to families in urgent need. Their dedicated efforts helped alleviate suffering, support relief camps, and bring hope and assistance to vulnerable communities during one of Pakistan’s most challenging humanitarian crises.

On Dec 26, 2004, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami caused incredible destruction and loss of life across five time zones and 14 countries bordering the Indian Ocean. Over 225,000 people were killed, thousands were injured, and 1.7 million were left homeless. WTN Group AG together with Global Line Holding AG did receive support from donors & it was channeled through our telecom network partners in India and Sri Lanka and it was distributed to the affected families for their urgent healthcare services.

Bhai Ranjit Singh Masuta Leads Sikh Summer Camp for Youth in Switzerland

During the summer holidays, a Sikh Summer Camp was organized for youth in Switzerland. The main aim of this camp was to educate the younger generation about the Punjabi language, Sikh values, and Sikh traditions, while strengthening their connection with their religious and cultural identity. At the camp, students were taught Punjabi language, Gurbani, and the teachings and study of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Special focus was given to Kirtan, helping youth understand its spiritual significance. Participants also took part in Gatka, the traditional Sikh martial art and game, which promotes physical fitness, discipline, courage, and self-defense. Along with religious and physical education, the camp strongly emphasized Seva. Students actively participated in Langar Seva, learning the values of equality, humility, teamwork, and selfless service. The camp also included Dastar Tying training sessions, where youth were taught the importance of the Sikh turban and how to tie it properly, helping them take pride in their Sikh identity.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhai Ranjit Masuta highlighted the importance of organizing such camps for Sikh youth living abroad. He stated that these camps play a vital role in preserving Sikh heritage and guiding the younger generation toward a positive, disciplined, and meaningful life. Overall, the Sikh Summer Camp provided a positive and enriching environment, helping youth grow spiritually, culturally, and morally, while making their summer holidays meaningful and productive.
